We can't hate our way out of this. We aren't going win by despising half the country more than they hate us. Our only option is to begin to try to understand each other and to unwind this twisted demonization of millions of our fellow Americans. We need to get back to when we disagreed without disrespecting and hating.

Approximately 50 million people voted for Trump and about that many voted for Clinton. They simply can't all be horrible people. ,Many of us have brother, sisters, parents, or in-laws that we love but who voted for the other side. They aren't all stupid, uninformed, or evil.
We have been tricked by very powerful interests into hating each other. They have built industries, on the left and on the right, designed to make us furious and indignant.
Yes, they despise us. They think we are stupid, selfish, evil, and vote against our interest. We feel insulted and feel their disdain. They think we intentionally want to destroy the country, and we think the same about them.
"But, they really are __fill in the blank___." We are certain that we are on the side of the right and the good, but so are they.
Yes, they voted for someone with no ethics, with years of lies and scandals, who wants to tear the country together. They knew all of those things, and voted for them anyway. But they literally and sincerely think the same about us.
We must start listening to those we disagree with. We must realize they are not the enemy, they are our families, and co-workers, and our fellow Americans.
